One on one appointment  All clients are scheduled by appointment only, one appointment at a time, in the privacy of my sewing studio.    The amount of time you are scheduled for depends upon the kind of work you are requesting.  If you are just dropping off a pair of jeans that you already know the desired inseam for, then I will schedule you for 10-15 minutes.  If you need to try on clothing and have me mark them, I will schedule you for 30-45 mintues. Custom Sewing Jobs are usually an hour.  This gives us plenty of time to do fittings and/or discuss your needs.  I also like to get to know my clients.   I am performing a very personal service for you - whether I'm hemming a pair of jeans, making you curtains or whipping up a dress for you,  I think it is important for us to establish a relationship that will put us at ease with each other.   And, yes, I do have a private dressing area for you to change in.

Pick-Ups.  Once I have completed your job, I will call you to arrange a time for you to pick up.  These appointments are just as necessary as the above so that you are not coming to pick up something while another client is here for a fitting.  I do appreciate your coming to pick up as quickly as possible as I have a limited amount of space to store jobs once they have been completed.

Hours of Operation.   I realize that we all have busy lives these days so I'm very flexible and will do my best to work with your schedule.  I do prefer to see clients during the weekdays between 9am & 6pm and on Saturday between 10am and 1pm.  Sometimes I will even see clients on a Sunday if there's no other choice.  During the winter months, when the days get shorter, I would ask that you make a Saturday appointment with me rather then come after the sun goes down during the weekdays.
Visuals (for custom sewing only). When you come for your appointment, please bring a picture, photograph, drawing, pattern or garment that you want re-produced - something that conveys your idea.  If you don't have one or need help in this area, I have a large selection of books that you can browse through.  If you have access to a computer, check out my links for patterns.

Pricing
.
See NEW price lists for Altertions and Custom Sewing   There is a base price for everything I do, in both alterations and custom sewing.  Then there are prices for add-on features that will be figured into the base price.  This will determine the final price of your project.   Fittings for custom sewing will be included in the price. One fitting is included in price of alterations.  All charges for labor, notions, fabric, etc will be discussed with you prior to acceptance of the Sewing Agreement.

Deposit.  A deposit will be required at the time you deliver your fabric and notions to me.

Fabric & notions.  All notions, patterns and fabric are to be supplied by you unless otherwise agreed upon.    This does not include things like thread, needles, etc.  I will give you a list of fabric stores, complete with locations, directions and phone numbers and will also provide you with internet resources.  You will be given a shopping list with yardages, fabric suggestions, etc. to assist you in your shopping.  I do reserve the right to refuse to work with fabric of inferior quality or fabrics that are not appropriate for the job. The appropriate fabrics will be discussed with you prior to your shopping.

Shopping.  Under certain circumstances, I will shop for you or even with you.  If you request me to do your shopping for you, then you will be asked to sign a waiver that you will accept my decisions on all purchases for your job. The charge for this service is no less then *1 hour of my current hourly fee per each hour. I do my best to combine client shopping, as it is more expedient and saves one client from having to absorb the entire cost of my time.  *call or email me for my fee.

Alterations.  You can bring me a garment that has already been marked or you can try it on at my shop and I will mark it for you.  There is no additional fee for this service.  Please make sure your items are clean as I will not work on them if they are dirty.  This excludes outerwear unless it is extremely dirty.

Ironing.  Pressing goes hand and hand with what I do.  But, if you bring me a garment for alterations that requires excessive pressing in order for me to even commence the job, then I will advise you that there will be a charge for this service.  I reserve the right to refuse to work on an item that is dirty or has been in storage for some time and requires dry-cleaning to remove the wrinkles.

Home Dec.  For home dec measurements I will give you detailed instructions on how to measure.  As I only do simple home decor (see Home Decor), it's not necessary for me to visit your home to measure for you.  For full draperies & speciality window treatments, upholstery, boat work and and interior design services, please see: Interiors by Decorating Den or  Catherine's Draperies & Upholstery

Dressmaking.  If you are having custom clothing made, then I will need to schedule you for a series of fittings, the number will be determined by the complexity of the garment.  The fittings are included in the price you will be quoted.  I will ask for a retainer/deposit before your first fitting appointment.  Should you decide after this first appointment that you no longer want the garment, I will return your deposit less one hour of my current hourly fee to compensate me for the time spent on your fitting.

Job Quote - Sewing Services Agreement. (for custom sewing services).  This document details what sewing services I am providing for you, an estimate of  how much it will cost and when you can expect it to be done. You will be asked to sign this after you've read it and you will receive a copy.  Please make sure you retain this for your own records.

Change Orders.   At the time of our appointment, I will give you an estimated starting & completion date.    Once I have started your job (this means once I have cut into your fabric), it is difficult - sometimes impossible -  to implement change orders.  In the event that I can accomplish a change order, you may be charged an additional fee.  You will be notified prior to commencement of your job - this would be the time to introduce any changes.

Your Satisfaction.   It is my goal to provide you with quality services and satisfy your needs.  If, for any reason, you feel this goal has not been achieved, or you are disatisfied in any way,  then I expect that you will tell me at the time you come to pick up your completed garment/project.   It is at this time that you will be asked to evaluate the results of my work.  If there are any issues, I will diligently work with you to resolve them.
