I love sewing and take great pride in my work. It is my policy to complete each and every project on a timely basis without sacrificing quality to your complete satisfaction. To succeed in meeting these goals, I have established certain criteria as follows:
One on one appointment I do not take walk-ins. All clients are scheduled by appointment only, one appointment at a time, in the privacy of my sewing studio, The Thread Hut. I do my best not to overlap my appointments by allowing each client up to an hour. This gives us plenty of time to do fittings and/or discuss your needs. I also like to get to know my clients - it is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my business. I am performing a very personal service for you - whether I'm hemming a pair of jeans, making you curtains or whipping up a dress for you, I think it is important for us to establish a relationship that will put us at ease with each other. I am not the dry cleaners where you are dropping something off to be taken care of without ever meeting the person who is doing the work. And, fear not, I do have a privacy curtain area for you to change in.
Hours of Operation.
Visuals (for custom sewing only). When you come for your appointment, please bring a picture, photograph, drawing, pattern or garment that you want re-produced - something that conveys your idea. If you don't have one or need help in this area, I have a large selection of books that you can browse through. If you have access to a computer, check out my links for patterns.
Pricing. There is a base price for everything I do, in both alterations and custom sewing. Then there are prices for add-on features that will be figured into the base price. This will determine the final price of your project. Fittings for custom sewing will be included in the price. One fitting is included in price of alterations. All charges for labor, notions, fabric, etc will be discussed with you prior to acceptance of the Sewing Agreement.
Deposit. A deposit of no less then 25% of my labor charges will be required at the time you deliver your fabric and notions to me.
Fabric & notions. All notions, patterns and fabric are to be supplied by you unless otherwise agreed upon. I will give you a list of fabric stores, complete with locations, directions and phone numbers and will also provide you with internet sources. You will be given a shopping list with yardages, fabric suggestions, etc. to assist you in your shopping. I do reserve the right to refuse to work with fabric of inferior quality or fabrics that are not appropriate for the job.
Shopping. Under certain circumstances, I will shop for you or even with you. If you request me to do your shopping for you, then you will be asked to sign a waiver that you will accept my decisions on all purchases for your job. The charge for this services is no less then 1 hour of my current hourly fee per each hour. I do my best to combine client shopping, as it is more expedient and saves one client from having to absorb the entire cost of my time.
Home Dec. For home dec measurements I will give you detailed instructions on how to measure. As I only do simple home decor (see Home Decor), it's not necessary for me to visit your home to measure for you.
Custom Clothes. If you are having custom clothing made, then I may need to schedule you for a series of fittings, depending on the complexity of the garment. The fittings are included in the price you are quoted.
Change Orders. At the time of our appointment, I will give you an estimated starting & completion date. Once I have started your job (this means once I have cut into your fabric), it is difficult - sometimes impossible - to make change orders. In the event that I can accomplish a change order, you may be charged an additional fee. You will be notified prior to commencement of your job - this would be the time to introduce any changes.
Work Agreement - Quote. (for custom sewing services). This document details what sewing services I am providing for you, how much it will cost and when you can expect it to be done. You will be asked to sign this after you've read it and you will receive a copy while I retain the original.
Sewing Services Contract. This is my contract, which states that you are hiring me to perform a sewing job for you. Both of us will sign and date this document and you will get a copy of it while I retain the original.
My Guarantee. I guarantee the quality of my work to the satisfaction of my clients. If, for any reason, the client feels this goal has not been achieved, or is disatisfied in any way, I will diligently work to resolve the issue.
